Falls are the leading cause of death from injury among those aged 65 years and older, and the risk is even greater for women than men. Approximately 9,500 deaths in older Americans are associated with falls annually, with more than half of all fatal falls involving those 75 years and older.

Among those aged 65 to 69 years old, one of every 200 falls results in a hip fracture. And when an elderly patient falls, their hospital stay is almost twice as long as those of elderly patients who were admitted for other reasons. Falls and fear of falling have serious impacts on health, quality of life, and independence in the elderly.

Designed for older adults (65 years and older) and those with chronic health conditions who might have impaired balance and limited mobility (45 years or older), this 12-week evidence-based, instructor-led group program is designed to improve strength, balance, flexibility and mobility through slow, therapeutic movements based on Tai Chi.

We are currently using a virtual format so those considered high-risk for falls could still receive the assessments and classes they need to live safer, healthier lives.
