The Winston Lake Family YMCA has been under renovations since July 2024 and will reopen to the public.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - After 11 months of renovations and the additions to the YMCA REACH Center at Winston Lake, the YMCA of Northwest North Carolina has announced the reopening of the Winston Lake YMCA.
“The Winston Lake Family YMCA has a rich history and a strong commitment to service in this community. It brings us a tremendous amount of pride to be able to come together with strong partners to address specific needs that will help our entire community thrive,” said YMCA of Northwest North Carolina CEO Darryl Head. “This space will be more than just a gym or wellness center; it is a vibrant center where people can come and feel embraced on this journey to better themselves and their families. The renovated YMCA REACH Center is a catalyst for improving all lives in spirit, mind and body.”
The YMCA REACH Center now also includes an onsite Novant Health family medicine clinic. Read more about the Y’s strategic alliance with Novant Health here.
The clinic, Novant Health Winston Lake Family Medicine, offers convenient access to routine primary care services, sick/injury care, treatment for chronic conditions and on-site X-ray and lab testing for patients ages 5 and older. The clinic will officially open later this month and see patients Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. In the future, the clinic will offer extended hours during the week and Saturday availability. Patients can schedule an appointment by calling 336 277 5090.
“The REACH Center is a beautiful illustration of what can be accomplished when we work together to create a healthier future for the communities we serve,” said Alisha Hutchens, president of Novant Health’s acute care facilities in the Triad Region, and president of Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center and Novant Health Medical Park Hospital. “Ultimately, our goal with this fully integrated clinic is to not only improve access to care, but to establish trusted health-centered relationships with the people who live, work, exercise and play right here in East Winston-Salem.”
The renovated space also includes multipurpose classrooms that will host various courses, workshops, and training delivered by strong community partners; renovated child care facilities; updated locker rooms; new wellness center with state-of-the-art equipment and group exercise rooms; and an expanded lobby that the YMCA hopes will function as a “community living room.”
Adult education, workforce development and financial literacy will be offered at the Winston Lake YMCA in collaboration with Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina, Forsyth Technical Community College, and Financial Pathways of the Piedmont.
These opportunities will be coupled with child care at the YMCA REACH Center, allowing parents the freedom they need to improve their education and vocational skills in order to gain the employment needed to elevate their family’s financial well-being. Through this work, the YMCA hopes to assist in addressing pressing social issues and work to ensure that every child, family, and community has what they need to make positive life changes and overcome obstacles.
By focusing on health, education and economic development, the YMCA of Northwest North Carolina aims to build a supportive and inclusive environment within this treasured community asset where everyone can access the resources they need to thrive.
Beginning May 27, the wellness spaces will be available for current and new members to use for the first time. The space will open as a fully functioning facility with Kids Zone, group exercise classes and pool hours beginning June 2. The Summer Learning Academy will also begin June 2.
